Something which was proved just last week, with the announcement of Hitachi Rail Europe’s decision to bid for a £2.75bn contract, which would see high speed trains built in County Durham’s Newton Aycliffe factory.
It could all mean more jobs and visitors to the region, but perhaps more importantly – and impressively, it means the area’s proud and rich engineering heritage continues for years to come.
