The weather in the North East is looking up and summer is well and truly on its way, we can’t wait. But, whilst we’re not exactly guaranteed brilliant weather up here in the North, we can guarantee that this summer Newcastle and its surrounding areas have a whole host of amazing things to see and do – no matter what the weather.
Opening this summer, Newcastle’s newest hotspot STACK will bring entertainment in all forms. From unique eateries to local crafts, it is set to be a remarkable entertainment destination located in over 50 containers. Due to open in June, STACK will also compromise of an Enchanted Garden, a unique summery hideaway located on Newcastle’s high street, perfect for a quick break from all of your shopping.
How about a trip to the seaside? Newcastle is surrounded by stunning coastlines with plenty of activities for every occasion. Head to Tynemouth, one of the best costal towns in Britain, for an abundance of bars, restaurants and continental cafes – the perfect day out for a couple’s break. If you’re looking for more of a family affair, why not jump on the ferry and head south of the river to South Shields where you will find copious amounts of ice cream, play parks and the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park fairground.
For the music lovers amongst you, South Tyneside’s summer festival is the place to be. With tickets costing only £5 each, hop on the Metro and head to the coast to see performances from Pixie Lott, The Vamps, Scouting For Girls, Atomic Kitten and Lemar! And if pop music isn’t so much your style, don’t worry we’ve got you covered, there will also be FREE entry to our very own Proms in the Park and live brass bands at the beach front amphitheatre.
More of a football fan than a music lover? We might not be hosting the 2018 World Cup, but Newcastle has you covered for the best viewing atmosphere. This summer, Newcastle’s Times Square will be hosting a LIVE viewing of all 52 games in an outdoor city centre garden, set to be one of a kind, it’ll be the perfect destination for those sunny summer days.
And if all of that isn’t enough to bring you up North, the biggest event in Newcastle this summer is of course The Great Exhibition of the North. Embracing the North’s pioneering spirit, this summer long celebration will bring exhibitions, performances and magical experiences for all ages. Discover how our region’s big ideas made history and how they plan to drive the future through immersive events and hands-on activities. Follow the trails across the city and watch as our beautiful buildings and streets, come to life with designers, engineers, artists, musicians, maker, community groups and businesses.
