Walk for Parkinson’s – Newcastle Quayside – Saturday 12th May
Is your 2018 health kick not going quite to plan? Clear your diaries for Saturday 12th May: why not get fit with the motivation of an amazing cause? Lace up your walking shoes, stick on your Walk for Parkinson’s t-shirts and get your friends down to the Quayside for a fabulous day out for the even more fabulous charity, Parkinson’s UK.
Week2Week Serviced Apartments have joined up with Parkinson’s UK, a charity which drives for better care, treatment and quality of life for the 127,000 people in the UK affected by Parkinson’s disease. 6,500 people have been diagnosed just in the region of the North East and Cumbria and currently there is no cure. Parkinson’s UK ensures nobody has to face this disease alone.
Somebody who knows too well the amazing work Parkinson’s UK does is Sky Sports Presenter Dave Clarke. Diagnosed with the illness in 2011, Dave completed his own 200-mile Coast to Coast Walk for the charity in 2016, and is now a firm supporter of such events as Walk for Parkinson’s Quayside.
“It was a tough walk but the sense of achievement when I crossed the finish line was fantastic. I know not everyone can walk that far, which is why many of our Walk for Parkinson’s events have a choice of distances so that everyone can find the perfect walk.”
So why not get involved? With a choice of the two-mile route or the six-mile route, which is a bit more of a challenge, the walk lets everyone get involved, regardless of fitness level. In 2017, Walk for Parkinson’s Quayside had 100 walkers, and raised an amazing £8,500. Let’s try and beat this in 2018!
