When thinking of the north east of England and energy in the same sentence, many would be forgiven for thinking of coal.
The mines and pits which were the hub of communities up and down the region that provided power for the nation for decades.
Now though, those thoughts may turn to the seas – the North Sea to be exact.
British Petroleum, better known as BP has announced plans to drill new wells in the North Sea, with chief executive Bob Dudley suggesting the new wells will see oil production continue on the sea “past the year 2050.”
It’s big news for the north east region, which is often a first port of call for workers on the wells, with Dudley also announcing the chance of seeing more jobs created and an influx of investment to support the upwards of 50 new wells – which will include five exploration and 50 new development wells.
There’s further good news for the area and the oil and gas industries with NOF Energy -which Week2Week Serviced Apartments are a proud member – expecting the boom to be sustained, as chief executive of NOF Energy, George Rafferty explains.
“2017 should bring a period of stability for the North Sea, which will lead to an improved picture and the emergence of new prospects later in the year.”
At Week2Week, we could not be happier about the news, as it gives us the chance to promote the north east – the place we call home – to even more people, and as members of NOF Energy, we are proud to offer fully serviced apartments, in prime locations around Newcastle upon Tyne to the hard working men and women on the rigs and wells.
